SAMUEL1 DURHAM was born 06 Jun 1752 in Fauquier VA, and died 02 Jan 1837 in Green County KY.
Samuel was the son of William DURHAM born 1710 St Paul Parish, Stafford County Virginia and died 1793 North Carolina and his wife Margaret COLCLOUGH (1712-1780) she was born in Stafford County Virginia and died in Warren County North Carolina
It is stated in “Uncle Ham’s” Alexander Hamilton Hudgens (1854-1934) Bible which was passed to Grace Hudgens Davis, that the Durham family came to Tennessee from North Carolina in the period 1800 to 1809. It was at about the same time that the Hudgens’ clan moved from Cumberland County, Virginia to Robertson County, Tennessee. One hand-written Bible statement claims the Hudgens came in 1809; other people say they came in 1811.
Samuel married Sally Reed in NC in 1790? and she was the mother of all but the last two of his children listed. He married his second wife Sally Crouch in KY in 1815.

Then his unit moved up toward Nashville and fought in the Battle of Franklin on 30 November, 1864. He was killed that day as was his best friend, Pete Morris, also from Cheatham County. Jesse had a leg injury and bled to death. The families traveled to Franklin and brought the boys back to Cheatham County. They were buried together in a Morris Cemetery. Today, the family still has a letter Jesse wrote while his unit was at Mobile, AL. A copy of the letter is on file in the Tennessee State Archives in Nashville.

Hey Paul, Thanks for visiting my findings Seems my greatgrandfather Dan B Hudgens and Orea Durham were friends and cousins, thru McInturff and Durham earlier on.
Do you have any additional info that you would share? Maybe photos or stories?
James Orea Durham was my grandfather. My dad was William (Paul)Durham his son. My mother was Muriel (Parks)Durham. My parents had five boys, Ralph Olen, Paul Dale, Ronnie Gale, James Alan and Jerry Dean. I am the last surviving brother.
Thanks for the information you have posted here. You show that Martha Pardue who married Zachariah Durham was born in 1805 and died in 1847. If you would advise where you obtained her birth and death dates and who had/has the original records, I would very much appreciate it. Martha was the great-aunt of my Pardue grandfather, Finis Brown Pardue, and I have been compiling a list of my Pardue forbears and this information is very helpful
You show her husband, Zachariah, died in 1850, however, he was listed in the 1860 Williamson County, ILL Federal Census records.
I am James Orea Durhams granddaughter, my mother was Jennie Mae. She passed away 10-8-14 at age 96. She would have been 97 Dec. 15th. I noticed you have a picture of Vivian and Gladys when they were little girls. Vivian is the top picture and Gladys is the bottom one. The names are switched. Thanks for all the work you have done.
I see a lot of trees that have a second marriage for Samuel Durham b. 1760 in Green KY in 1815 to Sally Crouch and children assigned to her. I do not believe he married this woman. There are a number of Samuel Durhams in the 1810 to 1820 time frame at various locations in different states and counties. You have to sort them out. There was a father and son in Green KY were the marriage occurred, who were both named Samuel Durham. They are in KY census in 1800 , 1810, 1820, 1830 etc. I believe the son is the one who married Sally Crouch although it could be a late remarriage for the father. In any event those Samuel Durhams were there before the marriage in 1815 and stayed in KY long after Samuel Durham of this line moved to Robertson County TN 1810 to 1820. It is likely the Samuel Durham of this line had one wife named Sally Reed who he married 24 Dec 1796 (I believe the 1790 has been misread and is likely a 1796 bu that is just an opinion) is still with him in 1850. They are in the 1800, 1810 census in Warren NC and then 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850 census in Robertson TN. While the Samuel Durhams of Green are still in Green after our Samuel Durham had arrived in Robertson TN. So I believe the Sally Durham in the 1850 Robertson census is the original wife Sally Reed.
My great grandfather was Theopalus Durham (aka T.D.) b. 1866 d. 1962, who had a brother Sam E. Durham b.1868. All I know is that they were born in Tennessee. It’s been a dead end. Could they be related?
James Orea Durham was my Grandfather. Paul Durham was my father.
