Ethel Orpha McAlpin SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Ethel Orpha McAlpin, 98, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin. She was born March 18, 1900 in Williamson County. She was the daughter of William T. and Roseilia (Benedict) Hudgens. She married Nahmon McAlpim on May 18, 1920, in Paducah, KY. She was a resident of Marion for over 10 years following the retirement of her late husband, Nahmon McAlpin. Mrs. McAlpin was a resident of Elgin most of her life. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Imogene Dubley of Carpentersville, Nadene and Hubert Johnson of Selisbry, NC. and Charlotte and Roger Quandt of Elgin; 24 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Hudgens of Marion, Paul and Ethel Hudgens of Elgin, and Wayne and Imogene Hudgens of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Nahmon and Glen McAlpin; one daughter in infancy, three brothers, Floyd, Harvey and Albert Hudgens, and three sisters, Nellie Lindsey, Maida Goddard and Minnie Popham. Services will be at 11:00 am Friday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy.
